The Washington Redskins came into this game knowing what was on the line, and they held on to sweep Philly in an intense nail-biter. The Philadelphia Eagles has now lost four games back to back with a slew of injuries that ultimately led to them losing to Washington 27-22.
Washington’s money-man Kirk Cousins had an exceptional performance today despite a minor hiccup. Washington’s future QB connected 14 passes out of 21, with a total of 234 yards, 2 Touchdowns, Interception and two sacks. In this league, you have to mentally tough to bounce back from mistakes, and Kirk has shown that in his fourth year in the NFL as a starting quarterback.
Robert Kelly continues to impress coaches with his ability to make things happen when they aren’t there. People are actually comparing number 32 to former Seahawk running back Marshawn Lynch which is a bit of a stretch considering he’s a fresh rookie, but hey, the eyes don’t lie and I agree with them.
Kelly touched the ball 16 times rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown that shifted momentum in Redskins favor. Love what Matt Jones did for Washington earlier this season, but it’s clear to see why they decided to move on with Fat Rob.
DeSean Jackson made to phenomenal plays that further cemented his worth in Redskins organization, and If I’m Washington’s front office it would be wise to keep this guy around to give Kirk more experience with talent.
Jackson hauled 3 catches for a 102 yards, which came by way of Kirk Cousins laying an 89-yard touchdown bomb to number 11. You can nearly hear the breath sucked out of Lincoln Financial Field on that play.
Pierre Garcon has ended Washington’s fade-route miscues with a 16-yard touchdown catch from Kirk Cousins, hauling in 5 catches for 59 yards total. Garcon and Jackson will become free-agents at the end of the year and it’s going to be interesting to see what Washington’s front office do with these two dynamic players.
My bet is they keep both Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson because they’re too good of a pair to let slip away. However, if you’re you only had to choose between Garcon and Jackson who would it be and why?
Redskins have three games left on their schedule and it only gets tougher down the stretch. The Carolina Panthers has had success with Washington in the past, but are standing at 5-8 in the NFC South with a 28-16 win over the San Diego Chargers. Is this a game Washington must have in order to have any hopes of getting a wildcard spot? Yes.
Will they have success on the road in Carolina? It’s a 68% chance they can come away with another road victory against a team who’s looking like a shell of themselves this season. However, I’ve seen what a desperate Cam Newton and the Panthers can do just with their backs against the wall, so it’ll be a HUGE challenge for Josh Norman and Washington’s Defense to get bitter-sweet revenge in their house.
