Before I begin writing this article I just want to thank The Washington Redskins for entertaining me and fans alike 2016/17. Yesterday at FedEx field tensions were high as they’ve ever been with playoff hopes on the line, future contract negotiations among other things, but was it a must win and get in sense of urgency? Yeah, and no, and here’s why.
Washington’s Offense was the story of 2016 season piling up record breaking numbers any organization in the NFL would die for, however, the Skins Defense was mediocre causing this team to lose games they should’ve easily won. You can’t blame this season on Redskins offense because I’ve said on social (Via Twitter), Captain Kirk and the Boyz played lights out, and there’s not a doubt in my mind these guys could’ve had a ticket to the wild-card dance this year had their defense done their part.
So even if the burgundy and gold were to make it into this years post season the chances of them getting past their first opponent were very slim. When your defense is not performing at a high level in December you can expect to be sitting at home watching the playoffs with the average fan. The Giants Defense did enough to keep Washington on their heels, and even though they didn’t score over 21 pts it’s a true testament to how their defense got Eli and The Boyz a big W heading into the postseason.
So if I’m Redskins front office this off-season, my only goal is to ramp up the defense, period point blank. The offense doesn’t need any more weapons than they already have. Some may say you can never have enough weapons on offense and they could be right, but, that can become a problem for some playmakers who feel like they should get the ball more than usual. So how do you balance this out? Simple. Get rid of dead weight and work with the guys that are sincere about helping this organization win games and excuse-free.
I’m pretty much a humble writer that considers the feelings of other before I write something that may offend, but in Washington’s 10-19 loss to the Giants had me thinking was the team turning up with me on New Years EVE?..lol These guys were performing like that had too much champagne and pizza the night before the game. If in fact that was the case and they thought New York was gonna come in and lay down, they were surely mistaking. Giants didn’t forget that butt-kicking they received from Washington early on in the year and it showed the first half of the game.
On the bright side of things, this team has a lot to be grateful for heading into offseason. You got a good head coach in Jay Gruden, a good GM in Scot McCloughan, and a franchise quarterback that gives your team a chance to win games down the stretch. Was I expecting a Playoff team in early building stages? No way, but to get in every year would be nice. As a die-hard fan of this organization, I got all the patients in the world to see this franchise build the right pieces in place.
