Greg Jacobs better known for his stage name Shock G and co-founder of west coast Hip Hop group Digital Underground was found unresponsive in a Tampa Bay Hotel room by his father according to TMZ on April 22, 2021. The cause of Shock’s death has yet to be determined with sources stating an autopsy should be conducted soon. Fellow co-founder Chopmaster J also shared the heartbreaking news via Instagram.
34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!
Hip Hop fans and artist mourned and showed love to the 57-year producer/rapper. Jacobs sudden passing comes on the heels of DMX and Black Rob causing fans of Hip Hop to wonder how can this all happen within a two-week span? I wish I knew the answer to that question but the only thing I can say is only God knows.
What I liked most about Digital Underground is that they had originality. Know one was doing what these guys were doing which is why they’ll forever be celebrated not because they shined a lot on 2Pac Shakur and gave you timeless hit records, but they also stood up at time where censorship on Hip Hop artist such as NWA, Too Short and 2LIVE drove America crazy.
Sending prayers and condolences to the Jacobs family. Rest In Peace to Shock G AKA Humpty. Thank you for providing Hip Hop with something new, fresh and original.
The message is as real now as it was then… https://t.co/B0woAnlKab
