The 2018 BET Awards delivered another balanced show with the legendary songstress Anita Baker receiving her first ever Lifetime Achievement award, followed by a soulful tribute. Actor/ Comedian Jamie Foxx kicked it off harmonizing some snippets of Anita’s hits, Ledsi performed “Sweet Love”, Marsha Ambrosius sang “Rapture”, and Yolanda Adams blew the top of the building with “You Bring Me Joy”.
The reaction from Ms. Baker was priceless as she emotionally teared up with tears of joy, and the crowd response was very telling after hearing those great performance as if to say it’s “Been So Long”. I can’t lie, I shedded a Hollywood tear, you know, the one water bead rolling down your left or right eye?…lol
After an amazing-soulful tribute, Anita Baker got on stage and thanked her supporters followed by a message to the industry/ the powers that be to keep great music great (and not in those words), but I think it’s fair to say the world heard her loud and clear.
